Rochester.Metromix.com: Harbor Fest.

Sunbathers and beachgoers will have to share Ontario Beach Park with the 25th annual Rochester Harbor and Carousel Festival, commonly know as the "Harbor Fest," which begins this weekend.

We take a look at what you can do during the festival and where else you can go hang out in the area.

TheFatherLife.com: The Week in Sports #3.

Something amazing happened on Wednesday afternoon at about 4 p.m. You were probably at work and missed it, or maybe you’re just like most Americans and don’t follow soccer. Well, the U.S. Men’s soccer team beat Spain 2-0 in the second round of the Confederations Cup in South Africa. If you don’t know, that’s a pretty freaking big upset. Prior to the game, Spain hadn’t allowed a goal in the tournament, held a record tying thirty-five game unbeaten streak and had won fifteen straight games.

Did I mention that they are currently the #1 ranked team in the world FIFA rankings? USA is generously ranked #14 and had rarely ever showed up for big tournaments in the past. Obviously, this isn’t the World Cup, but regardless of their effort in the championship on Sunday, USA and its supporters should be overjoyed with this recent effort and excited for next summer’s World Cup.

TheFatherLife.com: Osburn on Tap: Fourth of Brew-ly.

Since this column is once-a-month, I usually touch upon an important date or event. This month is no different. I wanted to write about big craft bottles, but that will have to wait until next month. So, look forward to eventually seeing an article comparing larger bottles of beer to champagne. Why? Who knows, but big bottles of beer are fancy.

The Fourth of July is a few weeks away. It’s probably the most important holiday for Americans, so I had to write about it. Independence Day is more than just an over the top Hollywood blockbuster starring Will Smith, it’s a special day, not just because it’s the celebration of the Independence of the United States, but because it’s officially the beginning of summer. The fourth of July is also more than just the sparklers and Apollo Creed’s amazing American flag shorts and top hat, it’s a time for families and friends to get together to enjoy the beautiful weather and maybe watch some fireworks.

TheFatherLife.com: The Week in Sports #2.

This is the second installment of “The Week in Sports”. I’m excited to once again give you the scoop on the world of sports. Honestly, feel free to lay back and not watch SportsCenter at all during the week, I’ll hook you up. I’ll set you up with all the information you need. So, let’s get started. We have some big things going on this week. The U.S. Open is in full swing, interleague baseball is still going on, the NBA and NHL have crowned their champions and Shaq wants to fight a giant...

TheFatherLife.com: The Week in Sports #1.

Welcome to “The Week in Sports.” your weekly run-down of the happenings and shenanigans of the sports world. Some of the stories mentioned will be more mainstream, while others will be about sports that you might not have even heard of let alone follow. I’m going to try my best to give you a broad view of the goings on of sport as a whole.

I’m going to update you on what has happened in the major U.S. professional leagues (NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL) as well as the NCAA (Mostly football and basketball, also lacrosse), but I’m also going to stray a little away from the norm for some of my content. I’ll mention world sports, such as soccer and rugby (which many Americans don’t care for and/or understand). I’ll also dabble in the worlds of Tennis, MMA, NASCAR, golf and anything else I can think of. If a competitor in the Worlds Strongest Man competition drops a 500.lb weight on his foot, you’ll hear about it.

InsideLacrosse.com: NCAABest Games of 2009: IL Staff/Contributors in-person favorites.

While Christian Swezey and Terry Foy covered a couple angles on what the top games of 2009 happened to be, we figured we’d throw open the studio space and let everybody have a little cowbell solo - sharing their top games they saw. The only rule: You had to see it in person.

We had our esteemed staff members run off their top five games of the year - expanding on one in particular that they had seen to explain why it stuck out for them. We also enlisted several of our regular freelancers/in-game blog specialists to chime in with a game or two of their favorites.

(Keep scrolling down in the article to see my little write-up)

TheFatherLife.com: NHL Finals Preview.

It’s a rematch of last year’s finals as Pittsburgh and Detroit battle for the Stanley Cup starting on May 30th. This is the first Finals rematch since the 83-84 season. Last season, the Red Wings used timely goals and stout defense to defeat the Penguins 4-2 in the best of seven series. This year, they’ll give it another go.

Apparently, the real conference finals should have actually been the conference semifinals. Both Pittsburgh and Detroit needed seven games to defeat Washington and Anaheim respectively. The actual conference finals were a different story altogether. The Penguins, led by the dynamic and youthful combination of Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby (28 points each in the playoffs) easily dispatched the far overmatched Carolina Hurricanes 4-0. The Chicago Blackhawks made the Western finals slightly more interesting by only losing 4-1 to Detroit.
