Inside Lacrosse Magazine Cornell 10, Hobart 7.

The last time the Cornell lacrosse team had a game, it was the national championship against Syracuse. They lost that game in overtime on a marker from Cody Jamieson, but they got the victory today.
The Big Red defeated the Statesmen of Hobart 10-7 today at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. This game was originally set for yesterday afternoon, but inclement weather forced the game to be moved to today. It also caused the game to be moved indoors to the Dome and i doubt any of the players are complaining.
Cornell was led by Rob Pannell (2g, 3a), Scott Austin (2g), Ryan Hurley (2g) and Mitch Mcmichael (2g).
Hobart was led by Doug shiver (2g) and Kevin Curtin (2g).
Hobart's next game is March 6th at Colgate and Cornell plays on March 2nd at Canisius.

nllinsider.com: Hard-working Rush sneak up on Rochester to steal National Lacrosse League win in OT

The Edmonton Rush visited the usually not-so friendly confines of the Blue Cross Arena for the first time ever on Saturday night and the escaped with a hard-fought 12-11 National Lacrosse League win over the Rochester Knighthawks. Andy Secore took home game MVP honors with his hat trick, including the winner in overtime. Rochester is not an easy place to win if you don’t play for the home team, but the Rush maintained their composure and never panicked despite never holding a lead during the game, except when it mattered the most.
Rush forward Ryan Powell, who played a few seasons of outdoor ball for the Rattlers, knows just how tough it is to win in Rochester.

TheFatherLife.com: [NFL] Wild Card Weekend 2010

It feels like I was just writing my NFL season previews, but now it’s playoff time. Most of the field was set weeks ago, including most of the NFC, but seven teams were battling for the remaining two AFC slots in week seventeen. The Jets and Ravens, two teams who took very different routes to the playoffs ended up taking home the last two wildcard positions.
This season, there were five different champions out of the eight divisions, three of which are in the AFC. There are also six teams making an appearance in the postseason that had an early tee-time at the golf course this time last year.

TheFatherLife.com: [OSBURN ON TAP] Craft Canned
It’s commonly known that most craft breweries bottle their beer. A vast majority of them would never even consider canning their masterpiece. It’s usually more of a difficult process and one that many believe is less classy than bottling. A few interesting (and a little bit crazy) breweries, however, have decided to primarily can their products.TheFatherLife.com: Disaster Averted: Knob Creek Flowing Again.
Those unfamiliar with spirits (liquor, not ghosts) might not a have a clue what the title of this article means. No, this is not an article about a nearly dry river bed that is now flourishing due to a recent and well overdue rainfall. It’s not the story of how this stream will now quench the thirst of the townsfolk who previously walked around aimlessly with dry mouth as they waited for the drought to end. But, for somepeople it’s as big of a deal.TheFatherLife.com: NCAA Preseason Rankings.
Kansas is pretty much the consensus choice for #1 in pretty much all rankings. They are the toughest, deepest and most highly touted team in the NCAA…on paper. Regardless of how good we expect Kansas to be, there is a good chance that at least one (if not many) other team(s) will have the #1 ranking at some point during the season. As they say, “That’s why you play the games.” Otherwise, we would just crown Kansas the national champion and the next four months would be might boring (who wants to watch the NBA? I’m a Knicks fan, not me).TheFatherLife.com: [Osburn On Tap] Pumpkins Aren't Just for Pie.
I’ve delayed this article for a long time. Some years ago, I promised myself that I wouldn’t write an article about Pumpkin Ales for thefatherlife. My reasoning was because I always felt that a Halloween themed article about beer brewed with flavors of this gourd-like squash was a little bit cliché. It seems like every other beer writer in America is or has written a Pumpkin Ale themed article for Halloween. Well, after some serious deliberation, I’ve changed my mind and have decided that the world needs to know more about this seemingly strange fall brew.Monday, November 2, 2009

Mutineer Magazine: WinePlusMusic.com article.

Check out my article in this month's issue of Mutineer Magazine. I wrote about wineplusmusic.com and also had a nice little profile of myself in the beginning. Find it at Barnes and Noble if you live in Rochester. there's no link to it, because it's completely in print and not online (aren't I a fancy boy). Look for an article about Sailor Jerry Rum in the next issue.

Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace are an extremely popular way for people to connect whether for social reasons or for networking. Makeitpro.com is in the vein of popular social networking sites, but it has much different uses than it’s mainstream cousins.

TheFatherLife.com: NHL Season Preview.

A new season is upon us, but it feels like it was only a few weeks ago when Sid the Kid and the Pittsburgh Penguins pulled the ‘ol switcheroo and beat Niklas Lidstrom and the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 a year after losing 4-2 to the same squad. Evgeni Malkin was the MVP of the Finals as well as the playoffs as a whole. Max Talbot scored the only two goals in game seven, and Marc-Andre Fleury only allowed one goal to secure the clinching game.
But four plus months have passed since the Penguins triumphantly raised the cup. With the drop of the puck last week, the ’09-’10 season has begun, a season full of hope as well as dreams of Stanley Cup glory for all thirty teams. Right now, every team is still in playoff contention as far as I know.

TheFatherLife.com: Q&A with Oakland A's outfielder Ryan Sweeney.

In 2009, just his second full season in Major League Baseball, Oakland Athletics outfielder Ryan Sweeney finished second on the team with a .293 batting average while hitting six home runs, recording 58 RBI’s and stealing six bags. He was a human highlight reel, collecting many a web gem and leaving numerous batters gap-jawed as he robbed them of potential home runs while patrolling spacious right field at McAfee Coliseum.
Just like former NBA MVP Steve Nash, Vikings receiver Bernard Berrian and NBA baller Hasheem Thabeet, Sweeney is involved with the sports social networking site makeitpro.com. I recenty had a chance to chat with Ryan about the site, his days off and what other professional sports he’d like to try out...

Rochester Insider: More music Relocated Rochester Indie Fest adds two days, more venues and scores of bands

The South Wedge neighborhood is home to some of the most popular restaurants and bars in the city. Now it's home to the Rochester Independent Music Festival.
The festival, which launched last year, has undergone many changes. In 2008, it was a one-day event featuring six bands at Water Street Music Hall. This year, it's spread out over three days — Thursday, Oct. 1, to Saturday, Oct. 3 — and will feature more than four times as many bands at several area venues...

TheFatherLife.com: [OSBURN ON TAP] To Arthur Guinness!

Where the heck did the summer go? I’m pretty sure that in the northeast we only had a one week stretch that really felt like summer. This was actually the fifth coldest summer in the history of the city I live in. I’m fairly sure the rest of the northeast didn’t fair any better. Regardless, fall is upon us and the leaves are quickly starting to turn to autumnal hues of red, orange, and yellow. I know fall is here because I keep finding them covering the windshield of my car when I get up for work in the morning...

TheFatherLife.com: The Week In Sports #15: NFL Vandalism | Wacky Steve Nash

It’s always troubling when a professional athlete’s personal life becomes intertwined with events that happen on the field of play. Athlets are put in the spotlight on a nightly basis, and sometimes mistakes happen. Last Monday night, a fumbled kickoff return by the Buffalo Bills’ Leodis McKelvin led to the winning touchdown by Tom Brady and the Patriots. Local Buffalo hooligans (two misguided sixteen year olds) decided to take it upon themselves to paint the score and the words “learn to take a (expletive) knee” on McKelvin’s front lawn in the hours directly after the game...

TheFatherLife.com: The Week In Sports #14: Something Is Rotten in Pennsylvania

Something strange is going on in the state of Pennsylvania, and it has been for a long long time. The Phillies have lost the most games in MLB history and had sixteen straight losing seasons in the thirty’s and forty’s. But, somewhere in the early nineties, the Pirates must have decided that they weren’t going to let the boys from Philadelphia have all the fun...

TheFatherLife.com: The Week In Sports #13: Aging NFL Free Agents

The NFL season begins next week and there are still quite a few big name free agents sitting by their phones. Players like Marvin Harrison, Shaun Alexander, Joe Horn, Amani Toomer, Matt Jones, Derrick Brooks, Michael Boulware, DeShaun Foster, and Joe Jurevicius are still on the market looking for a home, as are many other big name players. How is it that so many household names remain unsigned this close to the season?
